Silly me….
Yesterday at some point slightly after I changed the DNS pointers to mephistos.com but not nearly long enough after for any propagation to have taken effect – I left a note on the blog stating that if you were here to check back later. My thought process was the old one copy of the blog would have the note, when the new one got the pointers it would not have it and I would know when it was complete.
…time passes…
I watch the derby, do several other things, work on some computer stuff. Even observe that the two other domains that I had changed DNS pointer information for had completed. The hour was late, I was a bit tired and more than a little out of sorts over the filly Eight Belles. So I retired to read about Native Dancer – the Gray Ghost, knowing that surely this morning I would be hitting the right server.
…more time passes…
I awake and come check things out and I am still hitting the wrong server. Surely I am thinking it must be a cache issue, but on 2 computers using 2 different browsers? Many cache clearing efforts later I am still getting the same thing. But hey if I hit the FTP mephistos.com site it requires the new credentials.
A few thoughts later I am thinking it has to be somewhere I have something that is still pointing to the old database. So I am looking at all the files, but really there is only one file in all of WordPress that contains the database connection information. So it is really pretty simple. So then I am thinking there is something in the tie ins to the main wordpress.org website and the plugins I am using that is causing me to get the old site.
So I go to the old site, delete both the files and the database. And I am still getting the message about we are moving. It is then and only then that it occurs to me that I had posted the message on the new site. The propagation had taken place apparently in mere minutes. Sure enough, I looked at the new database and it had the message right there in it.
What fun for a Sunday morning without any coffee yet.
