Centennial Post
I was tempted to call this posting centennial+1, but I am not sure if that would have been followed by everyone or not. A more obscure one still would be centennial++. How appropriate that the last post, about my being a slacker from generation-x, was indeed the 100th post to this blog. Granted, the original two or three post here were made when experimenting over on the WordPress hosted blog site and were later moved to this site. If my math is correct, the first post was made on November 17th, 2007, 285 days ago. So that puts the average at something around the a post once everything three days or so. Of course, it took almost two months between the first and second post and there have definitely been some times in there that the posting stream slowed to a trickle and nearly seemed dried up completely.
Obviously I am not living up to the idea of two to three post in a day. I do seem to get that fairly easily when I have the time to write here. I suppose I should say that when I make myself make the time to write here, I have the time to fairly easily post two or three posts daily. However, between working, trying to move some things, and dealing with horses, not to mentioned my own selfish desire to be a social person two or three times a week, I have not managed to make the time but about every other day. I think, without actually counting and doing the math, that the average number of posts in a given week or month is still close to seven or thirty, respectively.
… Time Passes …
I started writing that last night, but as 2:00am got near my eyes grew heavy and I was starting to think I was not making sense any longer. So a couple of things that I wanted to mention here really quickly. Some of these I am sure you have noticed and others maybe not so much, and few are things for the near future.
- I am sure, as a number you have noticed and probably found your way here from those links, I have been posting notes on both MySpace and Facebook in regards to postings here on the blog. That is a good way to at least keep friends from those places in the loop of what is going on here. I am not posting about every single post, but the ones that I feel are especially not worthy. If it is too much let me know.
- Speaking of such things, is anyone using any sort of thing like twitter to put one line notes about all your online activity in one place? I know they have an interface with Facebook now. I am just curious about it. Not sure I want that much information about me going all over the place in one place out. Who I am kidding, I love the attention.
- I have starting putting in the more tag and I am pleased with the result this time. It allows for more post to be seen on the front page with a teaser. You get an idea of what is there and can click and choose on the ones you want. Now I need to mod the theme so it shows the last 10 posts in the in the menu window versus the last eight.
- I have also started trying to include a picture of some sort with almost every post. I know that some of you who are using dialup find that annoying, but it just brightens things up and there is almost always a picture that is appropriate in some way or another.
- I have been going back and cleaning up some grammar and spelling on some old post. Apparently my Aspell does not always work as good as I think it should. I am back through July so far and there is a lot of good stuff further back then that.
- I am nearly done with taking all my little hand written notes about blogs and getting them on here as a draft and a notation of what my thoughts were. So far I have almost 40 in the drafts and my laptop back has gotten much lighter without all of those notes in it.
- I have been reading a lot about comments being a real measure of how successful a blog is of late. I am not sure how much I actually buy into that, but I am guess I am buying into it a little bit. I am personally thinking that usually I am stating my own thoughts and most comments tend to be a yeah me too or you are freak for thinking such a stupid thing. Anyway, there has been a lot of talk of ways to drive comments. I do think it would be cool to have at least as many comments, actually twice the number comments sounds even better, as there are posts, and give that the woefully small number of comments on here now have 1/2 or more as me being the author I am willing to give it a small amount of effort. So, there are now comments numbering in the 30′s. I am offering dinner and drink to the person that posts the 200th comment. I would prefer it be of some substance, but for this first go around we will just let it run and see what happens. If it is someone I know locally then you get my company and pretty much your choice of place in and around Lexington or Danville. If you are far away or would rather not be bored with my company I am thinking like $20 gift certificate or something like that. Just so you know, it pops up the count on here and who has posted in the admin panel, so there will be no confusion. And I will not count myself if I should hit the mark.
- So I promised a few more blog links in the blog roll. I found a great one, quiet by accident this morning (more like it found me). Anyway, the blog is Tribal Witch. She is very artistic, being a professional artist from what I can tell. She also does SCA activities and has a bend toward living green, growing some of her own food, and much into bartering and reusing versus tossing it out. Further, right now she has her own contest running with comments, where she is giving away some lovely glass horse shaped earrings.
Well, I ended up not going to Michigan for horse stuff this weekend. However I plan to put the time to get use. Instead I am going to work on several house keeping items here on the blog, catch up on laundry, move a bunch of stuff, get in some quality time with the horses, including some much-needed riding, and work on those books that have some storyboarding done and some pages written, but need to have much more.
