myFarm

myFarm

Perhaps I am being a little over the top or a little silly with this but I really don’t think so. As I am sure more than a few of you know I am on Facebook. A few more of you know that I occasionally allow a little time to get sucked into the little games that are available there, though usually with most of them I quickly become bored or otherwise realize that there is going to be too much time involved to really have fun with it. Not the case with though, called myFarm.

myFarm, to the best of knowledge is only available on Facebook, but it would not surprise me if there are versions of it that run on other social networks, especially given the recent move for such things to go cross social networks of late. The very basic concept is you plow, plant, grow and at harvest time reap the rewards of your crops in the means of cash. Additionally you can have animals and fruit trees, the former of which so far does little, the latter of which produces a fruit to be harvested as well. All of this is done on a fast clock of about three days to harvest for most things and has no negative generally like pests and weather. All in a nice simple little game that one can enjoy and share with friends with about five to ten minutes maximum daily and certainly a lot less on occasion and not nearly as complicated as games a few years ago like American Farmer for the PC, though in the same genre.

So my frustration – as that is where I am heading with this post is the lack of attention the developers are paying to such things right now. Fundamentally there are things that are broken and beyond that a good number of things that were promised as right around the corner development wise that have yet to materialize.

For instance, one thing that is included is the ability to send gifts of animals and trees to friends. It is of course the primary tool to get new users of the game from a developer’s standpoint. However, the last several days acceptance of the gifts I have been sent has not resulted in them showing up in myFarm gifts received box. And a few weeks ago, I had about twenty gifts I was ready to place on myFarm just completely disappear. I wonder if friends have had similar experiences?

Another thing that I have had occur is I have launched into someone elses farm or even a version of my farm from months ago on several occasions. I have wondered a few times if I had stayed that if that would have messed up someone else farm or wiped out all the things on my own in between now and then. I think this is a flaw that sometimes occurs between the multiple servers, but not 100% certain about that.

Those two are bugs, issues that may have only recently been introduced, but this next one is a real downer. Do not turn something on promising it will start producing something soon and never complete it. For instance I purchased in the game a chicken coop, actually two of them, with the promise of egg production for cash well over two months ago. Now they sit there full of chickens, but not one egg has yet been seen. Granted it is trivial, but you are letting me down in my promised expectation. consider also the number of things promised that have not been delivered like fences and animals like cows making a residual income.

And even more frustrating, I tried to send a note to them about this with the contact button. I got back a reply that said contact us here instead of using this, but your answer is probably in the online help/forums.

And why am I complaining? I mean, really, what incentive do the folks with myFarm have to work on it at all? Several of those lead to more people and with each person they get a piece of advertising that hopefully leads them to some amount of income. Not to mention there are ways of actually all but purchasing items in the game, which I am sure leads to income on their end. Bottom line is this – keep it bug free and don’t promise things you are not going deliver or at least if you do not deliver re-inform as to what is up.

I had a "gift crash" happen the other day and I think a tree that I sent you and three other people got wiped out. But it is kinda fun; my horses don't die in this game if I can't play for two or three days.
