25 Random Things
Not my usual kind of thing, but it came across Facebook from a good friend I found myself realizing a few new things and gained some insight otherwise. So I thought I would follow suite. I have posted this on Facebook and welcome you to do the same, if not there, do it in your own blog, MySpace, or even as a comment here. It was to be sent to 25 friends, but I figure why limit to that number? So the instructions were basically to note 25 random things about yourself. I tried to include a few things that not everyone would know as well.
1) I really have a love/hate relationship with technology despite it being my job and generally being on top of the latest and greatest. Most times I would prefer to just stick with what I got instead of getting the new and having to deal with learning it.
2) Related to that, I generally love the classic older stuff over the new stuff. Truck and such excepted to haul horses, but I would rather have a classic 50′s or 60′s car (even better if it is fast and sweet), vintage furnishings and in a lot of ways, didn’t people just dress a lot classier in older days? Doing stuff with horses (like farming) and having a slower pace is sometimes very romantically appealing.
3) Only a few people know this, but after 25 years of NO-WAY – I would actually like to have a kid or two these days, but it would have to be the perfect situation before I would I proceed with that.
4) Thinking of something I saw last night, “I love God/Jesus, but I drink a little.” Sometimes I drink a lot too.
5) I have an over rated sense of brand loyalty – once established that is. For instance, I have been using the same brand, flavor, and even dispenser of tooth paste for about 10 years and would get a little aggravated if that were to become unavailable (which has happened before with similar kinds of products).
6) I really don’t like having that much responsibility in life, especially with a job – but always seem to end up in the higher levels of responsibility in things which I am involved. Guess I also can’t stand to see something that I can do better or I am just to dumb to say no.
7) Related to the above, I would really rather sometimes just be a total slacker and do just enough to get by and instead enjoy all the things I could possibly screw around with all the time.
Jousting is a rush that is just hard to describe.
9) Riding a half crazy horse is similarly a rush that I love.
10) I love tobacco, especially to chew or smoke in a cigar/pipe – though generally I resist those urges pretty well. A nice sunny day like today though makes me long for it. And yeah, I know – unhealthy, nasty, etc. Remember though, I would not have ever had a Christmas without tobacco – probably not the same college education that I have either.
11) My favorite sport, aside from jousting is hockey. And good clean game with minimum or no fights is my general preference (unless someone is beating up on Detroit).
12) I love to read books, which I wish I had a lot more time to do so. Similarly I love magazines and even journals. When I am old I have a lifetime of catching up to do. I manage to read about one in ten I purchase of both.
13) That really sounds optimistic in 12, and generally I think I am, but on living that long and being retired or something I am probably being unrealistic.
14) Despite believing and such, I would much rather have an easy Sunday morning with a book, coffee, maybe the news, some music or eve better some time with the horses, maybe even riding in the woods.
15) I love to win, have a competitive streak in me as wide as the Mississippi river, maybe that long. I can make just about anything a competition and if I do woe to you. Ask anyone that has been out jousting group for very long about that. On the other hand, if I really like, er – maybe even love you – I can let you win without blinking.
16) Scrabble is excluded from the above, as I suck at such things as that – though I still try hard and occasionally can pull off a victory.
17) What will my legacy be? Will I even have one? Probably something like “Sorry that asshole is gone… We will miss him a little bit.”
18) I sometimes feel like I have had five separate lives, as there are clearly defined periods and the circle of friends almost completely changed in each of those periods with very few overlaps from the previous ones. I miss some of those old friends and such.
19) My best friend is probably a dog, but even she abandons me if there is someone else around that will love her for a bit – she always comes back though, especially if I am leaving. That kind of love/loyalty is a good thing.
20) I am really thinking that ten or even fifteen random things would have been enough right about now. This is starting to get hard. Not for a lack of things to put, but what is truly random without getting stuck in a them and what is something I am will to share with a LOT of people?
21) I secretly long to be more artistically talented in some way, but instead am limited to just appreciating such things that others do.
22) I am pretty much against piracy of things like music, software, copyrighted stuff in general. Ties into appreciating the artistic and other talents it took to make it happen. I will occasionally take a copy of something to try it, but if I like will always buy it later. Oddly, I don’t mind sharing what I have acquired with other people though.
23) Whoever says that they never regret anything, I am in awe. I have more than a few things in my past that I regret and most of those that I do regret I am sorry to someone/something for what happened because of it. And those that I am not so much sorry about, I just wish it had been different on my part.
24) In case you did not know it yet, I tend to be long-winded.
25) Sometimes I wish I had the courage to just up and run away – I mean like a McCandless or Call of the Wild or something too – not just a little bit of running away – but full-blown.

I enjoyed the read, hmm more things for me to think on asking questions of you. Though a few things I will have to watch out for, you just may be trouble.
