Odd & Ends

I have a hundred things to write about for the blog most likely. That is an educated guess of course, but there at least fifty drafts of posts that are in progress or a reminder note. And as if that were not enough, just about everything that I have come across the last twenty-four hours seems to have suggested another post. Some of them, however, are just not enough to make a full post on it’s on merits, so a collection if you well. Some of these by be revisited in the future though.
- Recently received a flier from either the health insurance or someone associated with them. The flier was a push for more healthy living, especially by exercising. One section was things to avoid so as to not get bogged down and not exercise. What was third on the list? Junk mail, not sure how that classified the flier, but I know where I filed it.
- Similar that, another piece of mail from the same general group that was promoting this great set of web tools that was called WebMD. Some parts of it did sound good, especially the caloric intake/output tracker and the adviser. Am I using it? No, after completely looking, with a fairly close eye over the three page brochure twice, I am gave up without ever finding an actual web address – reminds me of that line in Dances with Wolves - “Somebody back east is a wondering why don’t he write?”
- I don’t think I have mentioned it elsewhere, but I am officially the Media Relations/Webmaster for the University of Kentucky Cool Cats, the hockey team. I am still getting into the groove and need to learn a bit more about the inner workings of things. Expect some big things for next season. And while I am on the subject, one home game left for this season – and that is this Saturday eve at the Cool Cat time of midnight at the Lexington Ice Center, playing Indiana. You should definitely come out!
- I had a Birthday yesterday and while I don’t feel any older, I guess I am officially prev_age=prev_age++. For the less geeky or those who did not know, I am thirty-nine now. It sounds old, but I think that is only applicable if you feel that way.
- Did anyone else see the editorial cartoon in the New York Post yesterday? I will spare you the appalling details for the time being, as I do plan to post more on this one for sure. I just can NOT figure out what the heck someone was thinking to have thought that was going to be acceptable. Beyond that, the official stance so far has been that it was clearly a recognizable parody of the situation. Parody or not, it was still in really bad taste and certainly those that are up in arms about it are largely justified in my humble opinion.
- Guess it goes with the age stuff, but seems like almost every song I have listened to the last two-three days has a message in it about getting older, making changes, being happy, that just fits some part o my situation, is something that makes me think, or is just provoking in general. Special thanks to the Creed, the LOVELY artist formerly known as Diesel, and Alison Krauss with Union Station, along with several others.
- What crazy weather we are having. Going from warm, raining and thunderstorms to snowing in just over a twelve-hour period. I would love just a few warm breezy days. Just enough to dry out the ground to get in some horse riding on the weekend. It is still getting dark to soon for me to ride after work in general so it needs to hit during the weekend.
- Speaking crazy weather, yesterday at some point I came through an area that had just had a good down pour with lightning and wind. When I got out the truck at my destination I saw not one, but TWO rainbows. I like to think that was maybe a special birthday present for me – as I have never seen two rainbows at the same before like that. Oh, and yes, for those that are wondering I was looking and expecting to see a whole herd of unicorns then and there. Alas, I did not.
