Time Viruses

Anti-VirusHaving had more than a few realizations this month, just realized another one that has been going on a bit of late. It is one of those things that starts out very innocent and really not being very much of a time intrusion at all. Then before one realizes it you are, er, I mean, I am spending more and more time on the silly little things. If you are on any social network you to probably suffer through and maybe even contribute to the spread of them.

Some of you are probably wondering what the heck I am talking about right about now, eh? I am referring to those silly little games that seem to pop up on every social network. Some of them are as simple as taking a quiz, which can be even self-generated on the bigger more popular social networks in a just a few minutes. Others can seemingly take on a life of their own as you start with a just a little interests and before you know you have to be the biggest bad mobster, the largest producing farm, or toughest most chivalric knight of the realm.

I admit that it all started in a good way when I checked out some of those things back in my early jump into the social networking scheme. To begin with I was not going to bother with cluttering up my social network pages, as I was, ahem, above that. Besides I was really looking to see what it was all about and see how they (the networks) could be used to promote and build my own website traffic. Then a friend or too sent something called “flair” to me, which was innocent enough and I liked them a lot. Next up I was saving the worlds rain forests through gardening silly little plants, that often enough looked like people. And then before I know it I am checking and updating half a dozen farms every morning, again when I get home, and at least once more before my final turning in for the morning.

Anyway, the nature of a virus in the computer world is something that you usually did not want, usually guilty of, if nothing else stealing resources from what you really want to do, especially time cycles on the processor. Figure it is an appropriate to label them as such. Recognizing that, I have started and for the most part am nearly done with getting out of all those silly time-wasting little games. And while I appreciate all the invites and sharing, I will be pushing ignore for at least the near future. I will accept one little one – the piece of flair on occasion, as that is easy enough and no one really sense those anymore anyway. If you send something and I ignore it, do not take it personal, just killing them all.

* – Symantec Anti Virus software – think it will take care of this problem?

Are you saying people KNOW that I don't, for example, drink the shot they sent me, sign their petition, or sign on to follow their blog(that I'm already receiving four times anyway)?
