Pennsic Prep & Packing

Heading to BattleTonight I did the last of my preparation and packing for Pennsic. Pennsic is annual medieval ware between friends. After all where else do you get to beat on your enemies all day with a various weapon forms and then have a drink with them in the evening? As for me, this is the first Pennsic I have ever attended, but several other things, especially with horses are on my check list. This one is the big one with over 10,000 people in attendance. My plan is blog about the experience, either while there or when I get back. Anyway, this evening this is what I have done in the final stages of getting ready, in almost as hectic as this list seems to be:

  • stopped by storage unit and got a BUNCH of horse stuff of the car (bits, bridles, shipping boots, etc…)
  • went home, saw Bitzer, let her out
  • intended to cut fiberglass spears to length, realized they are with other jousting stuff at my mom’s farm
  • put saw and tape in car
  • got armor, shields, swords and loaded in car
  • Bitzer saw what was up, got in opened window
  • got Bitzer out of car, after much coaxing
  • chatting with Lucy who had to know if I was leaving and when I would be back and where I was going and what I was doing and if I was going to fight with real people with swords and… … …
  • packed more stuff upstairs and brought it down
  • got new rattan blank, rasped in hand hold
  • got out “smurf blue” helm to remove paint
  • powered up drill and stripped it, breathing in lots of “blue smurf” paint
  • thinking not bad, should get other armour and knock off rust
  • as finish, lacking the bar grill, drill strips gear
  • decide to finish sword, get new basket hilt, will not fit – will require rasping
  • decide to heck with, finish organizing car, which I realize now Bitzer has been sitting for two hours just in case I decided to load and make a quick get away
  • go back inside for one last load of stuff to care this evening
  • load it up and Bitzer is again in the car – she sees the armour and such and she knows what is up
  • finally a shower, washing off the smurf blue paint
  • start laundry so can have clean socks and such for trip
  • realize about five things still upstairs – blah
  • hydration and tomato/mayo sandwich
  • still need to charge all 10 hours of laptop battery, grab CD’s, digital camera, and it seems like something else – have to pick up fiberglass spears on way out-of-town and should get leather out of storage unit for edging and strapping a second shield

Can not wait to head out on the morrow after work, which I am going in early and in theory will get to leave early.

I’m always having to stop and pick up my fiberglass swords when I head out of town. It’s like the one thing I ALWAYS forget to pack:)
