2nd Anniversary

2ndAs of today the Mephistos blog is officially two years old. Two years ago on this date I sat in a coffee shop and made some notes about what was going on in my life and begin exploring WordPress. I thought today, I would give a few statistics from the blog and make a note or two as I did so. Excuse me if I seem to be a bit stuck on myself, but I rather happy about. First, I will say when I started it, I had no idea the direction it would go. Originally I was thinking more a notebook for myself. But then that drive to be read kicked into high gear.

It took awhile to achieve that and I recall how excited I was when I got reports back of the first folks visiting the site. Then a trick of posts sporadically on my part, but somewhere back in the spring of 2008 the idea really took off and I hit the road in a major way this. There have been a few times when things have stumbled and slowed down, but all in all I have enjoyed and I am already looking forward to the next two and probably four and even ten years. Now on to some stats:

  • Blog was launched November 17th, 2007 – originally on WordPress.com, later moved to my hosted site still running WordPress.
  • The two primary reasons to begin was a) an exploration of my ability to write anything cohesive and b) a need to be familiar with what blogs were and the technology behind them.
  • By making it 2 years, this blog outlasted my marriage by several months; further it has outlasted most relationships I have had since that marriage as well by an even larger margin.
  • To date, counting this one, there have been 296 posted entries made to this blog.
  • There are currently 41 drafts in the system, some roughed out and nearly complete, others being nothing more than a note to myself that functions as a reminder of what I think is a good idea to blog about sometime in the future
  • I have tried a few times to write a blog a day for a month, and while I have come very close a couple of times, I have never made more the 27 or so post in a months time (though I am on a roll at the present time for the month of November).
  • The biggest disappointment I have at this point, is despite a steady stream of visitors the number of comments is still a very low number – even given my efforts to do otherwise. I do understand a number of people post comments where the link originates from (like MySpace/Facebook), but I do not count those.
  • Average traffic varies with regularity of posts, but probably averages out to just under 100 unique visitors per 24 hour period.
  • Yesterday was the busiest day ever, with 498 unique visitors to the site!
