Observations 2010

Starting out the new year right. My goal off the top of the bat is to post daily for the month of January. That being said, my biggest first observation of the year is just how much of a cluster the holiday season between and around Christmas and New Years plays on blog readership. I went from pushing close to two hundred daily readers in the first half of December to barely getting twenty some on the days in between the holidays. Guess that says what most of you are doing at work, eh? Just kidding. In all seriousness I did not post as much during the that time either, but I am back on a roll now and so without further ado, some of the first of my observations for 2010!

  • First up is all the movies that were looking forward to the future, some of which have dates that have already passed, some coming up shortly, and one that stands out in particular as being this year. For the most part a lot of big misses on what they were portraying for the future. 2010 especially has us being a bit beyond where technology has gotten too. Others have a hit a few things but really had no clue about other ones – the Back to the Future series for instance has nailed eleven things that have come to pass already and it is best looking at 2015. Similarly though, there are several things that I think Back to the Future missed on as well. I am sure there are several other movies that fit this category at this point as well.
  • USB 3.0 is coming and what does it offer? Well, the big thing is it actually promises to deliver on the speeds promised by USB 2.0. Reality is though, not sure that it will get buy in from the major computer producers anytime soon to make it really happen. Would be nice for some faster access to USB drives though.
  • Been posting your colors lately? You know, the colors of underwear? Bra in particular? It is the latest example of a virule response in social networking. Not sure where or how it started, but women have been posting the color and/or colors of the bra they are wearing to raise awareness of breast cancer. It is working in a major way, but a lot of folks have had little to know idea of what it was all about. Maybe a bit more information in the future is a good idea. And by the way, some lady friends of mine have some very colorful intimates beneath – kudos!
  • Balsa tipped wood lance jousting is coming to the SCA. Here is the most public of the comments about the balsa jousting experiment on the Armour Archive – though I will have some to say about it on Eligius here shortly myself.
  • Closing in on nine weeks until Gulf Wars and I pretty much blew off a whole weekend of getting things done with a list of things to do that is about a mile long. What foolish activity on my part so derailed me? Oh yeah, stupid football and basketball on TV. I got to do better going forward or I am going to be miserable at the war.
