Long Overdue
Life has been, to say the least, busy. It has in truth been a whirlwind, or so it would seem, the last two months. I continue to be behind on everything from armour prep for Gulf Wars in just over two weeks to never seeming to get a blog written at all. Some quickly noted observations though continuing with that new category that seems to lend itself to such things fairly easily while I finish enjoying the last cup of coffee before heading out to some family obligations that I have this afternoon.
- We have an upcoming wet/dry vote here in Danville. I fail to understand the heated passion on this issue for those in the no camp. First of all, Danville is already moist, serving beverages by the drink and several establishments across town. Beyond that though, is do the folks in the no camp think folks that want full packaged sales are not going elsewhere to get it now? Of course my views on this should already be known – as I don’t think such restrictions on my right to purchase or sell should be allowed – period! My only suggestion in this matter is vote YES and I lament it is not county-wide, nor being considered over in Mercer county as well.
- Media coverage of things is a changing, but yet there is still irony in a lot of places. Recently, Mayor Newberry (of Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government fame) did not want a specific blogger to be allowed a press pass, despite other blog writers being allowed such. His beef was that the specific blogger clearly supports one of his opponents in upcoming elections and hence is biased. My first question to Newberry however is when was the last time a newspaper such as the Herald Leader had a clearly biased slant on issues or even candidate endorsements? The real irony though, the event in question sponsored by Scripps Howard First Amendment Center, a huge freedom of speech advocate. Makes me wonder if Newberry missed the memo?
- Kentucky’s legislative bodies are in session over in Frankfort. Of the more interesting proposals going through right now is an amendment to the constitution of our Commonwealth that if passed and approved by voters, would strike the required swearing of not having participated in a duel. Reasoning is that being considered according the sponsor is the oath reflects poorly on us, as a people of the state. I personally have no problem with it being in there and speaks to our heritage of rough and ready founding fathers. For more on this observation check on eligius.org in the near future.
- For those who find themselves involved in historical reenacting of various sorts and never can seem to get enough this little tidbit found on CNN a few weeks ago may be of some interest – mileage may vary mind you.
- It has been over for some time, but I have not shared the results from the Tweet Me a Story Contest in which I participated. I think I did not that I advanced to the final round and from that, one of my three submissions was considered for the best overall in the popular vote. Sadly though, I did not win either via judges choices or popular vote. It was a good experience overall and I enjoyed it. I will be looking forward to pursuing such things in the future.
- A little aggravated at this add-on I use called Read It Later. Mostly it is kind of sweet in that it lets you temporarily bookmark something to come back to later without cluttering up your actual bookmark list. I love that and it works great for my mental notes on blogs and especially observations. My complaint, however, is that apparently it is limited to ninety-nine such stored links and then starts overwriting. So I have apparently lost somethings I had made note of in the past. Lesson learned! Still a good hand little tool tough!
About time for me to head off, so I suppose this will have to do for now. Hopefully I will some posting done over on the other sites here shortly and follow-up with several more rapid post here in the coming days.
