George Strait

George StraightIt is odd that I was pondering a blog about George Strait just this past Friday. I had been going back and forth on the angle until late Sunday night/early Monday morning, when I caught a re-run of a tribute to Straight on CMT where he is being honored as the ACM Artist of the Decade. Granted it originally aired sometime back in May and I am not completely sure where I was and what I was doing, but seeing this show pretty much made it a have to do deal, and so here I am with a few thoughts…

Guacamole

GuacamoleIt is summer time and we are getting a regular trip in at the farmer’s market. In doing so, I thought it was time to share some of my recently explored recipes. Those of you who know me, know that I am known for dabbling in the kitchen and that usually I come up with pretty good creations. So the other day, when we were checking out after getting a specific item I wanted from one store we saw a burger with a guacamole based spread on it and decided to give it a try.

Toy Story 3

Toy Story 3In keeping with my recent promise to myself of posting whatever reviews or comments I had about movies that I have recently seen in a more timely fashion, here we go. Just last night my lovely wife and I went to see the most recent (and perhaps last) ?episode in the Toy Story saga. The movie, by Pixar and Disney, lived up the expectations of the name and indeed probably gave us story on par or perhaps slightly better than the original. Given that I saw the 3-D version of the flick, I was even more impressed with the animation of the third installment.

Reading Now…

AgincourtI used to occasionally make of note of what I was currently reading and what I had recent just finished reading. Over the last year or so I have not had near the amount of time nor really a good situation to do a lot of reading. Being settled into a house of our own now, that aspect has changed and so I have returned to my first true love and have ferociously being devouring some books of late. Here are a few notes of the latest ones recent finished or currently being read. As a convenience I have made links to Amazon for all the books listed.

Kelo vs. New London

KeloFive years ago this past week the Supreme Court of the United States upheld what was one the worst decisions ever made in the American court system. That decision was in the Kelo vs. New London case, where eminent domain was used by the a private corporation to oust Susette Kelo and others from their private property. This particular case is one of the worse examples of government stepping on the individual civil liberties of a person that I can imagine.

Disk Drives

SSDDisk drives that move are all but finished at this point. Historically a large number of us can recall the 5.25″ floppy disk drives that came standard on those first computers and maybe some of us can even recall the older 8″ drives before those. But unless you have been living under a rock the last five or six years even the 3.5″ floppy, yet hard cased, diskettes have disappeared. To get one these days is a special order and probably going to be an external device. Get ready though, more things are coming soon that will see a bigger set of changes…

WordPress 3.0 & WP Stats

WordPress StatsFirst, have you ever noticed how almost all the blogs that are categorized as technology also are almost always categorized frustrations? And remind me again why I chose computer science as my preferred field of study way back when? That aside, in case you are living under a rock, WordPress 3.0 came out this past week (Thursday mid-evening if I recall correctly). I have had it up and running here on Mephistos since shortly after the release without complaint in general. But…

Weekend Goals

To Do ListIt must be that time of year for me again… I don’t know? Earlier today I posted about weight loss and now I have a list of things I want to accomplish this weekend. Not sure if I will get to all of it or not. Helps me to stay focused though when I write out a list of what I need to do. Also helps me remember, especially when I finish one task, what else it is that I am planning on getting done this weekend. Yes, I do fully realize that if I get all this knocked out this weekend I will have to head to work next Monday to catch up on rest.

Heavy Weight

Heavy Weight Champ Rocky Marciano (1952-1956)I had good intentions back in January about loosing some more weight. Somewhere along the way that kind of got sidetracked and at first I was just mostly maintaining it. Since then however, I have put on several pounds, which is the actual opposite direction I need to be going. So, I am outlining a few things here that I know will help me with the endeavor. Maybe it will help someone else out there as well, but more than anything, it helps me hold myself accountable and hopefully you will help hold me accountable as well.
