Last Song
Back when it came out at the theater I caught this movie with my wife. Despite it being Miley Cyrus playing a leading role the movie is pretty good, largely because it has a good story. Granted not at all my typical kind of thing, but it is well worth seeing.
And yeah, I am breaking one of my typical rules and making a second post in the same day. To many things that I have noted to post about that have timing issues associated with them. Way too many drafts and notes that I end up not writing because the moment is passed. Way to many things that my brain wishes to express at times also. On to the movie…
It is the kind of movie that is hard to say much about without giving away to much of the story line. I will say that Miley plays a very strong-willed teen-anger full angst, especially in regards to her Father. Her folks are separated and however it comes to be she is going to be spending the summer with her Father on the coast somewhere in the Carolina’s.
Turns out, that she is a piano prodigy who has a lot going for her, including an invitation to Julliard, or something of that nature. Her Father has a good deal of musical talent himself. However, both of them have issues. She has been in some trouble and he was recently found near or in a church that was burning down around him. It seems that both of them have to some extent or another largely been falsely accused, but it takes a while for all of that story to come out.
It truly is a story of warm redemption for both of them and for the relationship that exist between them. Along the way Miley’s character also finds that first deep love and a few other things.
Anyway, I think that is about all I should say. I will note that the movie is based on a book and I have heard the book is really good as well. A warning though, apparently Nicholas Sparks is well-known for writing a good sad ending and this movie does have plenty of that throughout. Though the occasional quirky actions of the younger brother and even the father/boyfriend interaction bring in plenty of comic relieve.
Going ahead with getting this post out as the movie has just been released to DVD and while I have not seen it, I am sure it is making the pay-per-view circuit now or at least very soon. Oh, and suffice it to say, this not your ten-year old daughters Miley kind of movie, just in case you were wondering.
