Pilot – Evansville Indiana

I had several possibilities lined up for my first post, but I have to give the honor to the Pilot station just off the exit in Evansville, Indiana. I wish now I had paid more attention to both the stretch of highway and the fellow behind the counter who was extremely rude and less then helpful. Alas, I can tell you that is the exit from I-64 with the stretch of typical gas stations and fast food along it, that I think is about the halfway point from central Kentucky to St. Louis, Missouri (and points just east of there). So just what did this fine cashier do that I find so deserving to be the first ever official McAfeed??

October Geekiness

I have a few geek and technology smaller tidbits to share so I thought I would get it in really quickly before the end of the month passed by. There are a range of potential subjects in this posting and I hope that I can remember to include them all. A few possible subjects include what note to do if you want to keep you geek card (a la top ten style list), a small rant about some buzz kill blogger suggesting Gen X is looking back and it is going to be up to Gen Y, the idea of self-evident computing (and I will take it step further and say self-evident technology) and what that means – especially to technological professional gurus like myself, the apparent silliness at Google and attempts to speed up the network by compressing JPEG’s even more, why we need IPv6, and the best – Open Office is forking from Oracle with a new strain called Libre Office. As usual, I realize that the technical side of things is not for everyone – so feel free to skip this one if you need to, though I do recommend the geek card bit, as it is FUNNY!

Writing, NaBloPoMo, & NaNoWriMo

Sometime in the last few posts the blog has went over the four century mark on the number of post. Congratulations are perhaps in order, but not so fast I say. You have not see anything yet. Once of things that I have worked toward the last year or two has been much more consistent posting. Last year you may recall that I participated in both the National Blog Posting Month (NaBloPoMo) and National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) during the month of November. For NaBloPoMo we were successful in 2009, at least here on Mephistos. As for knocking out a rough novel in a month and the other blogs, well, lets just say a valiant effort was made. As we approach the month of November for the 2010 year we are gearing up with a slightly different plan…

Bidvertiser Failure

Bidvertiser, as an advertising company is an epic failure in my opinion and if I were paying for advertisement I would be irate with them. A little background is in order, I am sure. A few months ago I got serious about pursuing advertising and sponsorships to help offset the costs associated with hosting and supporting not only Mephistos, but the several other blogs I have as well. Granted, I still have some serious work to do, especially in regards to actually getting some sponsorships, but the advertising as been pursued in-depth. On advertiser solution I decided to pursue was with a company called Bidvertiser.

Very Funny – Thanks XKCD!

Not my usual style to be sure, but here are a couple of really funny XKCD strips from that last few days. For those wondering, XKCD is highly amusing comic strip with very simply drawn characters. The funny usually comes from highly educated persons point of view in regards to the rest of the world. I high recommend it and have marked to auto show on the days of the new strips. Also, there usually a bonus ad lib one-liner if you mouse over. Not humor for everyone, but anyone who does research, technology, or science will usually find them hilarious. Warning though, if you are an art history kind of person you may occasionally get a zing thrown your way…
