Resolutions – Part I
I realize it is a bit early to be started with resolutions, but I have one or two things that are really bugging me. I figure why put off until tomorrow that which can at least be started today. Largely, despite a couple of false starts, going back to even before I got married in the spring I have done nothing but be lazy and get fatter. I have had enough and I have got to do something about that before it gets out of hand.
In regards to the false starts, I am not sure why I have had hard such a hard time this year past with that. I would get a good start and be heading in the right direction for a few days, sometime a week. Measures have included various attempts to cut back on eating, especially on eating out, to eat more healthy when I am doing so, and various exercise endeavors. Some of it has been hard due to a lot of travelling with work and seemingly always being in a different locations. On the other hand, the exercise has gone well a few days or a week or two, but then for various reasons – like old injuries flaring up or weather, it has gotten slack and then two or three weeks later I find myself starting completely over.
Anyway, enough of that. I lost a lot of weight a couple of years ago – starting about this time (to fend off those that would cry you can’t start before Christmas). My plan was simple. Get what exercise I can and be active. This included mostly daily walks – which I was able to do on all but the wettest days. Additionally I rode the bike on a fairly regular basis to various locations.
My diet plan was pretty simple and actually included a breakfast on most days which was either a boiled egg or two or an omlette with mostly veggies an occasionally some cheese or meat. Lunch was always a simple salad of either lettuce, mixed greens or even spinach and very low-calorie dressing, often just red wine vinegar and some garlic or similar – which I love by the way. Dinner was salad and meat or if not that, something very light in content and in limited portion. Honestly though the salad and meat was the best option. Snacks were sparse, but when required again, the options of choice were fresh veggies or meat snacks.
A second goal that has to get going is getting more involved back in the medieval fighting, particularly with the SCA. I admit that this one that I will be apt to act on after the holidays. The practices between now and holidays are to sparse, apt to cancellations, and frankly will fall when I have other things happening. After the first weekend though, it is a weekly if not bi-weekly game-plan.
Third goal is more time spent with the horses. That time can be split between ground work, grooming, and maybe some riding. Bottom line though is the last couple of years the ability on my part is waning and the trust between me and horses is doing the same. Jack, fundamentally needs a lot of TLC to get to where horses of the past have been in regards to doing things. And honestly, some muscles need work on my part as well as well as the horses part to be the capable medieval equestrian I was just a few years ago.
Okay, enough from me for now, though I am sure I will have a larger laundry list around the first. What about you all? Anything so far you are resolved about?
