Boston Mutual Insurance
Sometime back in the early summer we had the opportunity to pursue some additional life insurance though a special deal with the my company that would be insured by Boston Mutual. I am sorry to say that I think my company made an error with that option being offered. Now to be fair to my company, they only arranged for the presentation and by having the entire corporation involved there was a good deal offered on the fee for the insurance. Boston Mutual however, was less than stellar in my opinion and was even deceitful on one point.
Without going into the minute details, Boston Mutual, by way of my company did a personal presentation to everyone at the company regarding a life insurance policy. I was from the get go not really sure, and if not for having gotten married just before that I would have said no in a heartbeat. However, having someone else to think about I was consider the option. After the personal presentation the salesman, which is 100% what he was, gave me the book and a very simple form. Instructions from the bloke was that a specific quote would have to be made from my specific information.
He further stated that if I wanted to keep my options open the paperwork had to be submitted but that nothing would be official, nor would the policy be in effect until I received confirmation from the company. It was at least implied that I would have a final sign off a that point of whether to accept or not. The problem, the initial paperwork application included bank account authorization information for once everything was approved.
Imagine my surprise when nearly three months after having sent the application into the company and without any confirmation of receipt or any notice that the policy was going to be approved and written they attempted to charge my bank account. Not only that, but instead of charging once for both myself and my wife, they attempted two difference charges. Now, I did say attempt, as that particular account is used for just such automatic withdrawals and never has more than a dollar or two in it then what is required.
Bottom line though, is because of the attempted funds withdrawal, I was charged an NSF fee not once, but twice by my bank. Needless to say the account with the insurance was cancelled. However, I still believe deceit was in play and I have written the company requesting a reimbursement of the fees charged based on their clearly not following what was indicated by their representative. So far I have heard nothing. I think I will be filing a complaint with both the Attorney General and the insurance licensing agency here in the Commonwealth to see if there is any further recourse that I can pursue.
In the meantime, I hope that this negative review will be read by at least one person that is presented with a similar situation and cause them to turn it down. Yes, Boston Mutual, I have McAfeed you!
