Weekend Goals
It is with some frequency that I occasionally make myself a list of goals or tasks that I plan to complete up over the weekend break from work. Once again I find myself doing just such a thing. I have many things to do over the next few weekends in preparation for reenactment travels to Mississippi and Texas in the coming few months. Additionally, I have several other obligations I have committed to that need to be completed in the very near future. So, to that end once again I will make a short list of those things I need to accomplish this weekend.
Listing items for sale – In a continued effort to get a grasp on my work area both upstairs and down, I will continue listing items on Ebay, Craig’s List, and various other locations in which I have no interest or consider surplus. Primarily items include electronics and computer support equipment, largely older though not completely obsolete and a huge amount of miniatures, which I have decided have set in boxes long enough without usage and should find a home where they will be more appreciated. The small additional income from such sales are also very appreciated.
Wiring organization – In that same vein, I plan to rear out some wiring in the office upstairs to make it more tidy, get wiring of the way to facilitate more functional use of the room, and generally make the office on nicer place to be. This is not a major undertaking, but does require downtime on a number of devices while this is being done including the Internet.
Helmet, liner, and aventail – This project was actually supposed to have been done last year, but for various reasons was not completed. It is now one of the top priorities for this campaign season. To begin all glue foam used as padding will be replaced with a cloth liner in a more period style. This will be followed up with the replacement of the current short butted mail, that is incorrectly attached with either a welded or riveted aventail attached in a period correct manner. This weekend the plan is first to get the rest of the holes for the minor drilled and then actually sew the liner. Maybe the attachment points for the aventail will also be riveted in place.
Blogging - It goes without saying that I have much blogging to do this weekend. In conjunction with blogging actual post I have a few things I want to experiment with and of course those additional things that just need to be set on the various blogs. There are actually paying number of blogs that I want to get written this weekend and if I do so the amount of reading for you to your readers will be impressive.
Downtime – I do not really mean downtime in the sense of doing nothing and certainly not in the sense of watching TV or some other mindless task, however I do need my personal downtime in the form of reading either books, blogs, or books on my Kindle. I have done more reading since Christmas of all three types however I still find myself short of time to allocate for reading. To that and I am trying to set aside a greater amount of time to pursue this relaxing and joyful activity going forward. My plan is, just as I tried to allow an hour for blogging each evening to do the same for most evenings for reading time.
Work stuff – Yes, unfortunately there are some work things that need to be done. There is a postal update that must be completed prior to Monday. There also a number of loose ends that need to be figured out in order to proceed with ordering computers for huge installation at the beginning of the second quarter. Also circulation printer issues exist to be addressed, primarily concerning the dot matrix printers for proof labels and service that needs to be performed on them. I’m not sure at this point if this will require physically going to the office or not but the plan is to wrap these items up on Sunday afternoon.
Project – There is a project that I am working on with a partner that need some attention this weekend as well. Without going into details and hence spilling the beans, let me just say some web site work needs to be done and especially some backend database setup needs to be completed in order to perceived with some testing and configuration of the idea. As this has been on the plan list for a couple of weeks now this really needs that have a higher priority going forward.
I’m actually kind of surprised that I was able to create this list with out it getting out of hand as so often seems to be the case with my list creation process. The number of items on this list is easily obtainable this weekend, unlike so many list in the past were I would’ve had to have been superman in order to complete the list. Congratulations to me for managing my weekend goals in a better way than in the past.
