Seesmic
After some time of looking for an I-Pad app that would allow me to push things to Ping.FM and hence on to other social networks as status updates and what have you I finally found one last night. Oh, I know, there are a few available for fees, but I did not need it bad enough to want to pay for the application itself. Last night I spent some time actually searching for the app I had in mind instead of the casual looks here and there I have made in the past and came across a sweet little app called Seesmic.
The Seesmic app does just exactly what I was wanting it to, clearly. That function being an easy, almost one touch and type a message that when sent goes out to Ping.FM and from there, using the settings I already had the message went to the various social media sites I had set up. These of course include Facebook and Twitter, but several others as well. It does not limit itself there though, as it does a good deal more than just that.
The tool will also push things out directly to Twitter and Facebook. For all three tools, you have to set up user credentials. Once done, it is simply a matter of clicking the right window and typing the message. In addition, for both Facebook and Twitter, it pulls a timeline feed of what the status updates that are normally associated with your respective account. Mind you, especially in regards to Facebook, this will not replace apps on the I-Pad like Friendly, but still, it is handy to confirm things going through the process and ending up where it is supposed to go.
You say you do not have an I-Pad? That is okay, they have a both desktop and browser-based versions of the tool as well. I am going to be exploring those, as one the nice features of Ping.FM from the past has seemingly stopped working. That tool was the ability to sent an instant message via Yahoo Instant Messenger or AOL Instant Messenger to a specific account and it go through to your Ping.FM account. Being able to hit a small footprint desktop app that is automatically logged on instead of having to go to the Ping.FM website to post things through.
You can get all the tools from Seesmic at their website or for the mobile tools from the Apple App Store. The one and only drawback I can point too is that the app is written for the I-Phone and hence works in either the small screen or a rough pixel version at the 2x function. Hopefully, in the very near future there will be an update specifically aimed at the slightly larger screen I-Pad.
