Torn: E-books vs. Paper Books

I know, I have had this debate before, but I am still being torn between the idea of which is better – the traditional book, made of paper that is printed on, especially a hard back volume and the e-book reader version that I can get so handily on my Kindle device (or for that matter my iPad, laptop, or even desktop computer). I keep thinking back on all those wonderful years I have had with books, but similarly keep thinking about the pluses of the electronic edition and some of the greener ideas behind it as well. I was especially thinking of this today while watching the Lord of the Rings Trilogy movies this afternoon, based upon probably my favorite books ever, by J.R.R. Tolkien.

NaBloPoMo & NaNoWriMo

It is getting close to November once again and once again I will be participating in NaBloPoMo. I am still debating about NaNoWriMo though, especially given something like four years of attempts without much to show for initial effort. For those not so familiar with the terms, NaBloPoMo is National Blog Post Month, where the idea is to post to your blog daily for entire month and is usually held in November. NaNoWriMo is short for National Novel Writing Month and again, held in November, the goal is to finish with a rough draft of a novel.

Water for Elephants

I am just a little bit late on getting this review up on the site, but it has been a crazy few past weeks at the office. Better late than never, and hey, it is probably still playing at some of the theaters. So the movie is Water for Elephants. The stars are Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson. Yeah, in case you are wondering, it is not really my kind of movie, but I did go see it with my wife. And when I say it is not really my kind of movie, well, that is really saying if it were on during a Saturday afternoon while I was working on something else I might have it on as a background kind of thing. Enough of that, I will get on with the quick little review here. Do be careful, there may be a spoiler or two in the following, so read at your own risk.

On the Nightstand

I have in the past on occasion posted a note about what I am currently reading. To be honest, I have not done one in a while. Also, since Christmas when I received my wonderful Kindle I have been kicking the reading I do into high gear. As stated before, some of that is because of the easy access to lots of historical documents that no one owns copyright to anymore – which of course I find extremely interesting. There is also the extreme ease of making notes, even right there on the couch or even in bed about the passage I am currently reading without even putting the book down and always knowing my place marker is still going to be there. On the other hand, maybe it is just the ease at which I can support my habit of reading three and four books at one time without having to keep track of the books as would have been the case in the past. Anyway, what am I reading these days?

State the Obvious

Somethings are so obvious and yet they are still outstanding issues, so I thought I would post about a couple of them I have observed lately. One that comes to my immediate mind is of course screen protectors on all these different little electronic devices. I just do not get it in regards of why [...]
