Believe in ghosts was the question that my wife asked me just a few days ago while were making our somewhat usual walk around the park. I suspect the question came up because it was an usually cold and dreary day, very late well past dark with the cloud clover and just felt like more a late October then early October. I think my quick and very definite answer of “No” took her by surprise just a little bit. But perhaps my follow up answer to the question of spirits existing being a yes then seemed contradictory. A bit of an explanation on my personal believes in the matter of spirits, ghosts and energies then ensued. As the conversation was somewhat interesting and I thought of a few clarifications that may have been missed in the previous conversation, I thought I would share it here on Mephistos.
Some belated thoughts on the ongoing controversy concerning the plan to build a mosque near Ground Zero. Note my refusal to say on/in Ground Zero, as it is not even in that location. The absurdity of somethings being made an issue just amazes me at times.
Darwin’s the Origin of Species was first published a 150 years ago today and while it met with controversy then I am not sure that the controversy today is not greater.
I read a friends blog the other night, sometime after the election. I was left wondering the same question that he raised in his blog. His blog was “How Would Jesus Vote?” I will begin by saying that in general I don’t really think that God takes sides in things like this, no more than does when people on the opposite sides of battlefield invoke his name prior to commencing the fight. On the other hand, I think that perhaps it would, just as the friend suggested, be a good thing if all had prayed for his guidance and hand in the matter without invoking him to be on one side or the other.
A few mornings back as I made a bleary eyed drive home for a brief stop over I stumbled on a preacher in the early AM hours who was just starting his message about Jacob and his waiting not once, but two times through seven years of service to her father to eventually have Rachel’s hand in marriage. What a love that must have been to have had that kind of patience and determination. Can you imagine anyone doing that today?
I think I checked off four of the seven deadly sins over the weekend, and maybe I hit a fifth when I was trying to make amends for some of the previous four.
