I know, terrible reference to a questionable song, but I did do it again. The it being changing the theme on the blog. The one that was in use before was seeming to me at least a little crowded and didn’t necessarily really fit. And today, I happened onto a site that was using this theme (or some variation thereof) and with a bit of research, I found Anders Noren’s website and…
Unfortunately I don’t quite recall the site I saw with this or a similar theme on it and I have cleared my cache, or I would give them a shout out. I will give one to Anders Noren, who has several professional themes and as far as I could tell from his site, they are all save one, free for downloaded. I will also add, that is coding is tight, correct, and probably some of the best I have seen from a theme developer – most are nowhere near as good nor easy to follow and almost all others break the rules as much as possible. Guess I should mention that I think the theme is called Baskerville – if I am recalling correctly.
That being said, I am very pleased with the theme out of the box. I did of course change a few custom options in the theme and I did have made a modification to make my adverts fit properly. Additionally, I did hack out the part where the feature image is displayed on the single post content page – as I have historically (going way back to 2007-2008) included images in most posts and this causes a double image if I set a feature image – which I want to do with this great looking magazine type layout.
And for the first time, this them has some custom post types that I am actually interested in using. I have more than a few galleries that I am wanting to put together – I will be looking forward to using that custom type. Several others that I am going to have to check out as well.
Another plus is that I have the theme pretty much looking the way I want it to look right off the bat – which usually it takes me some time to make such a conversion – over the course of several days, during which the site looks like crap.
Having said that though, there are a few things I am going to do yet. I am probably going to light things up with a green (probably a dark green) background, as well as my own header photo. That will probably be a similar scene, but probably in color – and I have to wait and find it first to take it – and we are still short a little bit on the leaves that I think I want.
That being said though, I got the widgets all set and along with the ads and such right off the bat. There is one thing I still want to really explore though. A give and take with Facebook would be really nice. It is something I have explored and even had going at some point in the past. But there are a lot of folks that comment over there and it would be nice to have those comments come back here as well. Not sure, may also explore (maybe in conjunction) the Disqus Comment system again as well.
About the only other thing that I am thinking of adding is some sort of related post tool to show such on a post and some sort of email list building tools (aside from just subscribing to the blog itself).
