The New Year and with it the typical planning for a fresher start, or at least the determination to stick with some plans made for the coming year is rapidly approaching. I have, realized over that it has been just over a month since my last post here, so I am first and foremost jumping back into my plan to post on a daily basis. I will say, that for once – aside from the week I took off from the blog after Thanksgiving, I really have been that busy with projects, both work related and personal, over the last thirty or so days. Enough of that though, time to get back to the task at hand, which listing out my ideals that I am determined about for the coming year. So, commence with your pork, corned beef, cabbage, and especially your black-eyed peas, pull up a chair… read my resolutions and comment back with your own.
I did this last year and though this is a bit late at this point, I decided it was a good thing to reflect back on the year past. So here goes with a top ten events or happenings in my life from the past year. And yes, it is in a list. Definitely still an issue with WordPress not doing ordered lists in a reversed countdown, very disappointing, but I suppose I really should not have expected that change. As usual, I am making the list and since it can not be ordered in reverse, I am just putting them down as the occur to me. Because of that, I will shoot for ten, but may be more or less, just depending on how things work out. Continue reading “Top Ten – 2010”
I realize it is a bit early to be started with resolutions, but I have one or two things that are really bugging me. I figure why put off until tomorrow that which can at least be started today. Largely, despite a couple of false starts, going back to even before I got married in the spring I have done nothing but be lazy and get fatter. I have had enough and I have got to do something about that before it gets out of hand.
I posted a list of things not to long ago of things that I needed to get done over a weekend. While I did not knock out absolutely everything that was on the list, it served the purpose well. The purpose of course was to both motivate me toward great accomplishment and to help hold me accountable to all that I needed to get done. So please bear with me as I run a list of things that I need to get done this weekend, where for the first time in a month or more I will actually be home all weekend. The sense of urgency is even greater on this list though, as I will be out-of-town most of all of next week and the following weekend.
I am about to get married really soon… less than two weeks as a matter of fact. I am not concerned about the marriage. Actually looking forward to that. However, I am taking the time to assess a few things in my life and feel like in some ways I am at a major crossroads. Maybe the marriage has little to do with the assessment, maybe it is in truth much more with having turned forty just under two months ago. Anyway, I have had these kind of major refocusing times in my life a couple of times before and good things have generally come of them. Last major time I got rid of motorcycles and all the rebuilding equipment and eventually got into the dream of horses instead.
I returned from my semi-annual trip down to Mississippi for the annual event known as Gulf Wars a few days back. This was the XIX such event but I think it is only my V in attendance, which I started with Gulf Wars X. If you know what I am talking about great and if not read on a bit more. Having been back nearly four full days now, I am finally finding myself realizing I am back in the modern world of reality. Despite a broken finger tip I think I would still much rather be that six hundred and fifty miles away and about seven hundred twenty-five years ago…
Starting out the new year right. My goal off the top of the bat is to post daily for the month of January. That being said, my biggest first observation of the year is just how much of a cluster the holiday season between and around Christmas and New Years plays on blog readership. I went from pushing close to two hundred daily readers in the first half of December to barely getting twenty some on the days in between the holidays. Guess that says what most of you are doing at work, eh? Just kidding. In all seriousness I did not post as much during the that time either, but I am back on a roll now and so without further ado, some of the first of my observations for 2010!
As mentioned before, I am doing a top ten best moments and/or experiences of 2009. Clearly these are things for which I am thankful for having had the opportunity. I am still debating regarding if I should do the same for the decade. It gets a little bit more involved to find the ten items that fit the list without skipping something else. And for those wondering, yeah, but decades end in the digit 9, but I started counting in a year that ended in 0, so I am all good. So the list is in order for a change, counting down to the number one experience – but for some reason WordPress seems to not agree with a <ol reversed> tag set.

You all (Old English terminology there) seemed to like it the last time I did one of these lists of things I have observed over the last week or so, or at least those of you who commented both here and on some of the social networks seemed to indicate as much in your raving positive response. To that end, I have indeed decided to make it a regular feature here and while at current time I am not willing to commit to an exact time frame, I am thinking more along the lines of about once a week or maybe sometimes if there is not much happening it will stretch to two. I am concerned though, what will I will use for an opening paragraph next time? Oh well, I have a week or so to figure that one out, let’s get started…
