Been a couple of weeks now, but we were hit with a second major snow. This second major snow amounted to about 13 inches in our front yard. It did impact travel and as usual the grocery store shelves. Thankfully, the impact was a short-lived rough 24 hour time frame (unlike the previous one that was over a week). Anyway, very pretty snow fall pictures once again…
Snow! It is what we have had nearly too much of the last week and apparently going to get even more depending on whose forecast you want to pay attention too this weekend. And it has been associated with plenty of cold. Anyway, a few pictures from around the homestead… Continue reading “SNOW!”
I mentioned to my wife just the other day that the weather forecasting teams, local and national, had since around Christmas made predictions for three snows with a decent accumulation for our area of the country. On all three of those past occasions, the road crews, both state and local had really put forth a major effort with both pre and post-treatment of the roads. Over done in fact, given that on two occasion we were lucky to see two flakes accumulate in total. My concern expressed to her was the what is going to happen when we actually do get a snow? Get the idea about snow being the subject? I got a dirty little secret about the snow. Well, not so much secret as I am telling everyone here and really not all that dirty though I think a few people will not like it. I am more than a little disappointed that Central Kentucky is missing out on the big horrible snow of the season and likely to be the one of the decade and maybe even for a couple of score of years. Yeah, you heard me right, dismayed that it is missing us. I am sure some are thinking, “Are you kidding, have we not had enough snow already this winter?”
Okay, maybe we have had enough snow this winter for some of you, but I would have been happy with just one or two of those little, kind of just pesky and irritating snows and I will grant you that right now. But I would really like to get one or two of those big snows of twelve or eighteen inches sometime again here in Kentucky. And sure, I would not even mind if we have twelve on the ground blowing and drifting and got another dozen a few days later to pile on to it.
Some historical irony in this weeks list of observations that I just find wonderfully fulfilling in a geeky kind of way. Also a good enough story that strikes home to some posts I have had here before about the idea and also the fact that you do not necessarily need an electronic can opening device built into your laptop. Hopefully, I have done a better job with my note taking as I have observed things this week, as I putting it together on the fly when most things are actually observed.
What a pleasant surprise I awoke to this morning. A stark white light was making its way through the window and to be that bright it could only mean… yes! We got a snowfall. Not only that but measurable accumulation. After my initial shock I had to think a bit about the rest of my day. Coffee was clearly in order. While roads were not bad, from my house to Christmas Tourney I would have used several back roads, so kind of glad I had mostly talked myself out of that. Wonder when it snowed? Since I was feeling crappy I skipped hockey last eve so really glad I was not in it. And what of the forecast? We had mentioned snow flurries a few times, earlier in the week, but even those had disappeared on the last one I saw Friday morning – because I was noting with irony friends in Louisiana were getting some white stuff and friends in Maryland had a forecast for some.
